How to Get the Most out of Music Lessons

Piano Lessons
At AMI, five years old is the youngest age that we start children in group method, The Mayron Cole Piano Method, and private piano lessons. At this age, they have begun to develop longer attention spans and can retain material with ease.

Guitar Lessons– Acoustic, Bass, Childbloom, Classical, and Electric
Five years old is the earliest we recommend for The Childbloom Guitar Program, a program geared specifically for children between five and 12 using child-sized, nylon-stringed guitars. Guitar playing requires a fair amount of pressure on the fingertips from pressing on strings, thus the requirement of nylon stringed guitars for the above program. Students in our Acoustic, Bass, Classical, and Electric lessons generally are 13 years old and older.

Voice Lessons
Eight to ten years old is the youngest recommended age range to begin vocal lessons. Due to the physical nature of voice lessons (proper breathing techniques, development of the vocal chords and lung capacity), the younger body is generally not yet ready for vocal techniques. Lessons are available in Broadway/Classical, and Pop styles.

Drum Lessons
The age varies greatly depending on the size of the child. They have to be able to reach both the pedals and the cymbals. Generally, students as early as eight years old can begin drums..
